One of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the season so far is moments way from kick off, it’s down to the match official Jack Hackett to set the first half underway.
The Woolston lads were well and truly up for this encounter, the first few minutes of the first half were beginning to look a little nervous from both sides though as they were both cancelling each other out in the centre but Woolston were looking the slightly stronger after some clever neat passing from Adam Powell in the centre of the field managing to spread the play to the right sided winger Taylor Burns; the pairing of Adam and Taylor have been linking up very well with each other over the last few weeks in previous games and today was looking much like the same, keep it up lads!. Chances were few and far between as both teams were breaking in areas but failing to break through, much to the credit of Connor Dakan who was looking particularly calm and composed at the back in defence, when in possession he was finding pass out wide to relax and calm things down when under pressure and also putting in some excellent blocking tackles, great work connor. Just under 10 minutes in and Woolston dominating possession, the game’s first clear cut chance came to Woolston and it’s was created by Thomas Delooze in midfield, after picking up possession deep in his own half he wriggle through to opposition players to burst forward and with on defender left in his wake he disguised a brilliant pass to Jamie Gallagher on the left winger who was in acres of space, Jamie using some neat footwork cutting inside then unleashing a powerful right footed effort which just flashed an inch past the far post. An on the edge of your seat moment produced by Jamie there with a great effort but credit to Thomas Delooze after a piece of individual brilliance to fashion the break.
Bruche were looking very quiet indeed but were remaining strong and just after 10 minutes they made their mark on the game against the run of play as they took a surprise lead. Thanks to a long kick from the goal keeper a missed time jump in the air from a Woolston player meant the ball fell kindly for the Bruche left winger and with a 2 vs 1 situation in their favour the winger ran towards the bar line to pull a cross back, with the Woolston defence a little too high up the pitch, despite their best efforts tracking back, they couldn’t block the cross which fell to the feet of the striker and with a tame effort he squeezed the ball under the goal keeper Jumah who hadn’t had much to do up to this point, watched the ball trickle slowly of the line…Bruche lead 1-0.
Woolston had to hit back quick, but thanks to the new stand in goal keeper Jumah Sambou the score line remained the same as he pulled off a remarkable double save as the Bruche forward found himself unmarked in the penalty area, striking the ball once towards goal Jumah got down low to palm the ball away from the danger zone then the rebound fell out to the feet of the winger who came racing towards goal again and ready to pull the trigger but Jumah excellently rushed out and gathered up the ball with a very brave lunge but superbly timed…excellent goal keeper from Jumah. Just five minutes to go in the half and Woolston were pressing very hard like it was the last five minutes in the game to find the equalizer and thanks to the Midfield duo of Adam and Taylor Burns again they did just that. With the ball being played to the feet of Adam again in the centre with out fail again Adam found a lovely first time flick to Taylor Burns again in lots of space down the right wing and Taylor doing what he does best week in week out breaking free down the line and this time fired a wicked shot towards goal which had the goal keeper scrambling forcing a corner. Thomas Delooze floating in another great delivery picking out Jamie Gallagher in the center of the penalty area, with his initial first effort blocked, Jamie then flicked the ball on to Jordan Deehan advancing from a defensive position, as cool as you like Jordan slotted the ball into the roof of the net from the tightest of angles to pull his side level at 1-1. Adam Powell at the centre of things good again with his super range of passing and Taylor Burns to race forward and apply immense pressure, not forgetting Jordan Deehan who defensively always puts in a superb performance everyweek and this time showing us what strong attacking ability he has, congratulations to Jordan on his first goal for Woolston in his debut season and what a goal it was, well done to the lads all round.
Half time was approaching and Woolston were ending the first half on the back foot a little as Bruche were coming over the half way line a little more but weren’t creating anything clear cut as Connor Dakan was continuing a fine display in defence alongside Jordan Deehan, both of them making some outstanding tackles and clearances to relieve the pressure. The referee happy with first half proceedings as time runs out in the first half and Woolston go into the break level at 1-1.
Half time Analysis:
An excellent first half display from Woolston, dominant in an attacking sense but also solid from the back and with a goal to show for their efforts they were looking good value for their performance. Let’s give credit to Bruche although they were quiet they were causing one or two problems as they also have a goal to their names. Woolston edging the first half on quality but the second half needed a little more from the lads going forward in terms of being clinical in front of goal. Second half just about to get underway so let’s re-join the action:
Second half:
No changes in the second half for Woolston yet but the first five minutes was an onslaught from the home side as the upped the pressure with a host of chances, Jamie Gallagher at the centre of them again but unfortunately for him and Woolston being wasteful with the efforts by not quite hitting the target and also not choosing the right ideas as several passes were available to spread the play. Right ideas from Jamie but not executed into goals. A change for Woolston now would see Jamie leave the field after a solid performance to be replaced by Owen Brooks. Wasting no time in getting straight into the action Owen picking up possession wide left driving at the heart of the Bruche defence cutting inside, with the opportunity to shoot gone begging Owen slipped a lovely inside ball to Adam Powell who cleverly whipped a shot right footed but only into the hands of the goal keeper, great play from Owen and great support play from Adam. Time ticking in the second half and Woolston were on a roll playing some excellent football and Kacey Davies was joining in on the fun after just coming on as a substitute causing problems for the Bruche defence, twisting and turning to pick out several neat passes to Thomas Delooze but unfortunately nothing came of this, TJ and Kacey playing together superbly in the last five minutes gone and showing a strong partnership. The other telling partnership growing in Adam Powell and Taylor Burns was blossoming even more as they created another effort just hit wide of the post from Taylor, super play from Adam and Taylor. Woolston were far the better team and were creating chance after chance but were growing increasingly frustrated in not converting them into more goals to take the lead, Dylan King was introduced into the Action for the last five minutes and was immediately called into action as Bruche began the late end rush in search of all three points but thanks to Dylan King using his excellent ability to work back and defend he tracked back and took possession on two occasions to put the pressure back on Bruche, you know you can count on Dylan when he is called upon , great work rate.
The last action of the game produced a scare for Woolston Rovers as Bruche broke forward in the dying moments of the game to almost snatch a late winner but Jumah Sambou proved to be the rovers savour as he yet again rushed out into a one on one situation and stopped the Bruche forward from scoring a heart breaking goal. Jumah has pulled of some brilliant and important stop today but the last one was by far the best of the lot, a superb performance from Jumah in between the sticks today. With the late scared very well dealt with by Jumah the referee blew the final whistle bringing to an end the most exciting game for Woolston so far this season. The final score here finished Woolston Rovers B 1-1 Bruche Athletic A.
Full time analysis:
What a superb game we have watched today. Honours even in the end at 1-1 but Woolston should be very proud of a fantastic performance which was thoroughly deserving of all three points. The Rovers perhaps should have sealed all the points as they dominated the game all the way through with some excellent attacking football as they proved far too strong for the Bruche for most the game, unbelievably great performances in the midfield field from Adam and Taylor and great understanding from Thomas Delooze and Kacey Davies. Not forgetting the input of Owen Brooks and Jamie Gallagher as they both were outstanding to. The Key performances of the day for me go to the back duo of Connor Dakan and Jordan Deehan who were solid from start to finish making every tackle and playing very calm and composed when under pressure which wasn’t very often but never the less a wonderful performance from them both. Well that is all from the Woolston Rovers camp today, big thanks to everybody watching and we will see you again next week away at Cronwell Athletic.
Moment of the match:
A hard one to choose from today with Woolston playing a great match but for me it was a great moment as Jordan Deehan registers his Woolston Rovers goal scoring account with a stunning goal, making his run up from defence and coming from the blind side to seize his opportunity and finish superbly from a tight angle. Well done Jordan and congratulations on the goal!.
Player of the match:
A difficult one to pick today as there were so many great performances however the referee’s and opposing officials pick today went to Jumah Sambou. Having just recently taken up goal keeping duties in his debut season he has put in some solid displays but today was his finest yet in a Woolston shirt as he pulled of a selection of stunning saves when called up and most impressively became a hero late a preventing his side from losing the game in the final moments as he made a remarkably brave save down low at the strikers feet. Excellent from Jumah and well done.
